Beginners guide to android development
Just before you get into this post, I just want to say im not going to recreate the wheel its been done already, im just gonna point you in the direction of how to get started developing apps with the resources i found most useful. So that being said ......Mypchealth and I have recently been looking in to Google App development and although I currently have programming expertise, i have not programmed any Google apps before. So i thought i would take this opportunity to learn how to create Google apps. As i have been talking about it to friends and colleagues there has been more interest in the subject than i realise so i thought i would share some information with everyone.
There different ways you can create apps but i would like to tell you about two methods:
1) Programming Google Apps with Mit App Inventor
If you have no programming experience and an absolute beginner to programming apps then i would suggest this is probably the best program to get you going. Essentially this is more visually based, using interlocking pieces to create your routines that build up the program. I would recommend this method if you are a beginner.
You can download the software here.
There are also tutorials to help you get going and can be found here
2) Programming Google Apps with Eclipse Android developer tools.
Using this method will require learning Java and XML, however this is a very powerful way of producing Google apps. It’s not that easy but if you have programming experience then you should be able to pick up these languages and how they interact. The XML is used for designing the layout of your program and the Java does all the funky bits behind the scene.
You can download these development tools here.
Now in regards to tutorials i found a mountain of them, but a lot of them ran you through building an app, but didn’t really explain what each element of the code was doing. I did however find a selection of around 20+ tutorials by the same guy on YouTube. These are what i have followed and i think they are excellent resource for learning to program Google apps.

So now its a simple a case of chosing your method, downloading the software and following the tutorials above. I would advise its not always going to be easy to understand, but if you stick with it you will become an expert in no time.
