I have recently had an issue where the Microsoft Kodu Game Lab would not load on a user account. Every time the user tried to load the programme it would crash with the error "Kodu game lab has stopped working".
Interestingly, the user originally did have the software working, but while using the program suffered a crash. I tracked it down to it being a "profile" type error as other users could run the program fine on the same computer. After deleting the local user profile on the computer it still would crash even with a clean local profile. So i had to look deeper until i found the issue.
When Kodu loads if you have previously used the program it tries to load previous settings. These settings are not stored in the local profile they are actually saved in the my documents area. The location is my documents\saved games\boku\player1 ... In this situation because the program crashed when making a game it corrupted the data. Then every time the user tried to load Kodu it would crash. To solve the issue i removed the aforementioned directory. This caused Kodu to recreate the folder structure and settings which allowed the software to run without crashing.
