What is a backup

What is a Backup?

A backup is the end product of a process to save your important documents, pictures and files in a second location separate to the first. This covers you in case your computer has a hardware failure, your computer is stolen or your property and contents suffers from fire or floods. There are various ways of backing up your data from copying to CD/DVD/Flash disk or to an external hard disk. These items then can be stored in a secure location away from the computer to ensure if anything happens you can restore the files on to new hardware.

It is best to expect your hardware to fail and therefore you will have procedure in place to make sure you will be able to recover everything and not end up spending hours replacing all the information you have lost.
